horizon (x3)
artist statement

In the project Horizon (x3), I set out to investigate the role that landscape plays in our perception of time and explore its horizon as the timeline upon which events take place.  I am interested in reconstructing the first moments that follow an encounter with a vast expanse. We look around, we pan from side to side and an idea of that landscape is formed in our mind. Soon enough we realize it is an image in constant flux: the wind blows, a bird flies by, the clouds move. I concentrate on elemental compositions of water and sky in which the horizon line is clear and continuous. This line becomes the axis upon which motion is laid out.

Thru juxtaposition and layering, my works provide an illusion of continuity reminiscent of a cinematic filmstrip. The variety of formats in which the subject is photographed bestow a sense of fragmentation and simultaneity along the panoramic view; this allows me to build a notion of space that incorporates time as an active element. My intention is to explore our positioning within these environments, uncover the narratives that might be suggested and record their unfolding.
